Brethren,
Two and one half years ago I wrote that: "my expectation was that all Masons engage in at least one Masonic activity each year. This could include attending an Entered Apprentice/Fellow Craft/Master Mason Degree; attending our Stated Communications; participating in Funeral rituals; a Rusty Nail Degree; social events; or, providing relief to a brother or widow in need."
The Villages Masonic Lodge has over 135 members of the Craft. I am saddened to say I know 35 or so members. These are Brothers I have met over the past six years. This suggests that there are over one hundred members I have yet meet and talk to.
My Brothers, this is in part my fault. I have not reached out as I should have. However, I will share my lack of fellowship with the members who have not reached out to the Officers of the Lodge.
How do we connect/reconnect ourselves to Brothers in No. 394? One way (and a poor one indeed) is for a WM to issue a summons to attend a Blue Lodge function. Another is to provide the Craft ample opportunities for fellowship. These are opportunities to attend our outreach programs, social events, our fraternal assistance opportunities or our Masonic rituals.
I appreciate that many have been involved in Freemasonry for 40 or more years. You have given your time, talent and/or treasure to Masonry. You may now feel you have done your fair share. You may believe it is time (to briefly) put your working tools aside and catch a breath. I ask that you reconsider such actions.
I remind you that there is NO time limit on your responsibilities. I ask that you recall, that on three separate occasions, you obligated yourself to the principles and tenets of Freemasonry. I ask you to recall the feelings of fellowship which were so important and central to your life. I ask you to recall the pleasure you felt becoming a better man.
Finally, I ask that you give a newer group of No. 394 Masons a chance to know you and to learn from your experiences. ONE Masonic event is what I am requesting of you. Which event will it be? It is your choice. We have many to select among. Choose one. If you need transportation call me (352.430.8040), and we will make certain you get to the one of your choice. The ball is in YOUR Masonic court. Please don’t drop it.
Pease keep in mind the Funeral ritual scheduled for R⸫W⸫ Richard Hubert, scheduled at 4:00 PM, on May 16, 2025, at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 1250 Paige Place, in Lady Lake. Your participation is requested as we celebrate his Masonic Life.
May God light your Path,
Jeffrey P. Lessard, WM, (352) 430-8040, jplbbu@rit.edu
